Cresting "The Hump"

Songwriting is getting more and more enjoyable.  In the past, I've had to be in the "right mood," or "feel inspired."  However the more I force myself to write, and try to write something every day, the easier it gets.  I think it may be like when I started studying piano in first grade.  I really didn't like it much for the first 2-3 years, but after I got over that initial hump, I really began to enjoy my time in front of the keys.  I think I'm finally beginning to crest that "songwriting hump," and that is really exciting for me.  I'm also glad my plan is coming more into focus.  My plan is pretty simple.  Write as many songs as I can, and hope I can get 2 or 3 songs that really stand out, and record those this summer. Bada bing, bada boom.  Thanks for reading y'all.

Co-write?

I've really been enjoying the songwriting class that I've been attending for the past 3 weeks.  So far it's been a lot of foundational material, but we're starting to get into the actual act of songwriting.  I'm told that before this is all over, we'll have had the opportunity to co-write.  I've never actually done any co-writing, although I've got to say, I'm really looking forward to it.  Who knows what will come out of the experience, but whatever it is, I'm sure I'll come out being a little more well-rounded.  As some of my other classmates played some of their songs today, I started feeling better about what I've written.  It's good to know that people are in the same place as you.  And this may be my musician ego speaking, but I kind of thought my songs were better.  This may be coincidence, but I actually got asked to do a little co-writing this past week, with a musician that makes music nothing at all like my own, but I think something great will come of our collab.  I think that is the allure of the co-write, bringing two opposite worlds together, and having the hope and possibility of making something amazing. I'll let you know if that happens.

I'm still working on getting the EP/singles done this summer.  I'm excited to see what happens with that.

Thanks for reading.

Back To Class

Sometime around Christmas, I decided that I wanted to get involved in some sort of musical support group, if you will.  So I did what everyone does, and turned to my old pal Google.  I came across a few things, but nothing that seemed to really jump out at me, until I found the L.A. songwriting school.  To be honest, I thought it sounded pretty cheesy at first.  A songwriting school?  Really?  But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense to me.  So yesterday I decided to go ahead and enroll.  I think I'm really going to enjoy my time there.  Apparently they have Grammy award winners that teach the classes.  So that should be fun.  I think I'm more looking forward to collaberating with other people like me though.  I've been wanting to collaberate for a while now, and I think this will give me a good outlet.  Still working on the EP, hoping to record sometime late this Spring.  I keep telling myself to just be persistant.  Sooner or later some good material is going to flow from this brain of mine.  Thanks for reading.

Covers from the bedroom. Get it?

It's been a while since I've done a cover.  I guess life got in the way.  People have been hounding me to do a song that is a little more up to par with top 40 music, and so that's what I've done.  Although I probably could have gone for something even more current, I think that this one is a pretty good choice.  I had been doing all my covers in the kitchen, and I liked the aliteration of that title, but since I moved I've had to switch to a punn. Hope you like it.  Thank for reading.

She Arrives

For months and months the only instrument I’ve been able to play is my guitar.  Guitars are great, and I’ve probably gotten a lot better, but I’ve missed my piano.  Well, I finally got to see her again last night when she arrived, all the way from Springfield.  It was like my own little Christmas.  You know those packages where your Grandma ties the ribbons a little too tight, and you can’t get it open for a few minutes?  That’s how it was with the piano box.  I knew we had packed it well, but I had forgotten just how well.  I’ve been playing around with it today, and am having to re-learn some of the functions, as it has been about five months.  I’ll have her back up and running smooth in a few days though.  In other news, I’m working on a short EP, and possibly a couple of singles to record/release early this summer.  So stay tuned for that, as I wouldn’t want any of you to miss out.  Oh, and I thought this video was funny.  Sorry if you’re offended by the title. Thanks for reading.
